I have two primary goals in teaching. First, I want to sensitize students to social issues and encourage them to participate in local and global political debates. I ask students to think about how shared cultural ideologies are institutionalized to differently affect groups of people--shaping identities, experiences, and opportunities. This also includes how inequalities operate at the interpersonal, organizational, and structural levels. Second, I want students to learn how to interrogate social issues through experiential, hands-on work. In my courses, the focus is on exploring power—who has it, who doesn’t, and why—and immersion in empirical work, current global events, and the politics of popular culture.
